Today, when i was searching for food , I saw oatmeal . Before I put it into the microwave i checked for little bugs because the last time I have eaten oatmeal I found bugs .So unsuprised I found like 30 little black bugs in my oatmeal . I went to go tell my mom and she examined it very closey . She found a couple moving and decided it was best to through the whole bag away . Can someone please tell me what these bugs might be called ? And why and how they got into our oatmeal? Thanks :)

They're weevils and are common in grains. The eggs do not always get removed during processing. You regularly eat them without knowing. If you find weevils, either he oatmeal is old or you aren't properly storing it. Store it in an airtight container. If you can't use it all in 6 months, place container in freezer. The container keeps weevils from getting in mad freezing prevents the eggs from hatching.

They don't cause or spread disease, they don't sting or bite.

They add a bit of low calorie, low fat protein to your oatmeal.

Bugs love oats and so do worms if there is enough moisture in the container. There is so much bacteria on those boxes cause they need to be safe to eat out of unlike soap powder boxes.

Most people do not eat their oatmeal right away and the box is stored for months and in many cases years. So it is normal for for organisms to start growing and breeding in the box. They are already there when you purchase the cereal you just cannot see them. This s true for all foods...There is an incubation period for food born bacteria to grow and then bugs bugs bugs...Eat up and enjoy the crunch:)) They won't kill you...

Must be where you live.

Maybe your house is too humid or too warm?

Check your cupboards to see if there are any areas where the bugs can come in.

For now, the best thing is to throw away the oatmeal you have left, buy a new one and place the bag in a sealable plastic container like these:

Wow! You certainly have been sick. I think you may have had (or still have?) the flu. If that is so all the antibiotics you can lay your hands on will not help, since that is a virus. What you need is some dedicated bed rest with plenty of sleep and with some nutrious light meals and plenty of water to keep you from being dehydrated. (or hot tea) Dehydration can occur rather rapidly and often requires an intravenous infusion of electrolytes and saline solution. Seems as though you have to find a doctor you can trust to properly diagnose your condition, before throwing a prescription at you. "Fat old American" huh........ well there are plenty of fat old Chinese too. (fill in the country in question)

theyre either roaches or indian meal moths i think without seeing them its hard to tell. i do pest control and know whats attracted to oatmeal. make sure all your sugar and spices put in a plastic sealed container. including cereals amd stuff in the pantry. you can buy spray at home depot make sure its labeled for what u wanna kill. take everything out of cabinets that u r spraying and wait 2 hours after your done to put stuff back away if u take a pic of the bug itll b easier to identify it. i have a bug id app on my phone. never heard of weevils must b a bug thats not in nj area

Might be saw-toothed grain beetles. Google that and see if it looks like what you have. I have an infestation in my pantry that includes oatmeal, cereal, pasta, etc. Fun times.

I'd call the company...it's also because it's getting cold and bugs like that are attracted to wheat

Definitely weavils..place.bay leaves in your containers and in your cupboards/pantry loose in a cup and use airtight containers. I like the freezer idea too...if you have the freezer space.
